1066 Harold’s Way, The Final Journey

Walk 1 Battle Abbey to Netherfield

The first tentative steps on 1066 Harold’s Way, The Final Journey were made on Monday 25th November. A draft route had been drawn to take in to account the final battle of the day, the infamous ‘Malfosse’, before heading up to the ridge at Netherfield and the White Hart. It was to be a clear November day, cold but dry – a good walking day except for the golf course where the OS map leads you away from the hidden and unmarked bridlepath – I was not impressed with re-walking this hill again. Other than that, I was very pleased with the route and the welcome at The White Hart, open on a Monday lunchtime too.

This walk was 7 miles with a little sightseeing and detours.

Actual walk to be 6 miles with a bus back from Netherfield to Battle every two hours.
