What a glorious way to spend a glorious Boxing Day. A late change of plans took advantage of the clear blue sky and no wind or rain to allow Hannah the opportunity to complete that part of Walk 9, Sissinghurst to Bodiam Castle, missing from her passport. To finish the 100 miles from Westminster Abbey to Battle Abbey, Hannah needed to walk the 8.8 miles from Sissinghurst Castle to Sandhurst and although the weather was good the conditions underfoot were a little muddy at times and one uphill section was like walking through glue. Hannah laughed in the face of wearing gaiters but the result was that she had to drink her toast to 1066 Harold’s Way in The Swan in shorts – the trail of mud left by the trouser bottoms would not have been welcomed by the landlord.

A couple of pints of excellent hand pulled Harvey’s Best with a fire burning in the corner created the perfect ending to a good walk.

Well done Hannah

If The Swan was on Trip Adviser, this would have been the comment:

At the end of a good Boxing Day walk, Sissinghurst to Sandhurst (1066 Harold’s Way), The Swan provided a very friendly welcome with excellent handpulled Harveys and a warm fire. The Swan is a very comfortable and attractive village pub which welcomes 1066 Harold’s Way walkers and on another day, we would have enjoyed a meal.
