Research

Research for Three Castles and an Ironmaster’s House led me to Christ Church at Kilndown.

Although the church is slightly off the route of Three Castles it was endowed by Viscount Beresford, a General in Wellington’s Army during the Napoleonic Wars and, later, the church was decorated in a Gothic style by his son.

Of note to me was the stained glass window that pictured ‘St Edward the Confessor’ and I wish that I had been aware of the window when writing 1066 Harold’s Way as it was Edward’s death that sparked the events that led to the Battle of Hastings and Harold’s march south from London.
