I hope that you enjoy reading the first newsletter of 2015 with news of ‘Five Great Walks that Start in London’, publication news of Three Castles and an Ironmaster’s House and the usual Pub Blogs.
During 2015, I will be leading the History Walkers on the first four stages of 1066 Harold’s Way, The Final Journey. The complete walk is 85 miles across the breadth of Sussex but for 2015 we will be walking from Battle Abbey to Hassocks and completing the journey in 2016.
The route will follow footpaths that link villages that were mentioned in the Domesday Book. There is so much history along the way as well as the change in countryside from the High Weald to the South Downs, from hills to lowland valleys.
The walk will explore little used paths, discovering out of the way villages and hopefully the pubs to go with them. It will be an adventure.
Wherever possible, the local rail and bus network will be used.
